Why should I delay cleanings?

This feature is built to help minimize spreading of coronavirus infection to your housekeepers during COVID-19.  According to CDC guideline published by Airbnb, spreading of coronavirus can be minimized from objects after 24 hours.  In order to take safety precautions for your housekeeper (and in turn your guests), it is recommended to have your housekeeper clean the property 24 hours after your guest checks out.  This feature is called "delay cleanings".

What does delay cleanings do?

This feature allows hosts to automatically delay cleanings to the following day (day after checkout).  It can simply be activated (or deactivated) at a property level.  When there is a new reservation (or altered reservation), Automatebnb will automatically delay the cleaning to the following day (+1 day) and notify your assigned housekeeper.

How do I activate delay cleaning?

Prerequisite  
Ensure that you have 'preparation time' set on Airbnb.  This will automatically block your Airbnb calendar for 1 or 2 days (depending on your preparation time setting).  Steps are here.

Step 1:  Click on Properties (in the top navigation bar).

Step 2:  Click on the property you want to activate delay cleaning for.

Step 3:  Click on Cleaning Automation in the left navigation bar.

Step 4:  Click on Activate delay cleaning button in the right pane.

Step 5:  Click to check off that you understand all 3 points in the pop window.

Step 6:  Click Activate in the pop up window.

FAQ

  1. What happens in case the cleaning can not be delayed due to back to back reservations?
    The system will automatically prevent that cleaning to be delayed and set the cleaning date to the check out date.  
  2. What happens if a new reservation gets created during an existing reservation's cleaning date?
    There is an auto conflict resolution in place, so anytime there is a conflict detected (i.e: cleaning date overlaps with a reservation window), the system will automatically resolve that conflict and notify you (the host) via email of the new cleaning date.  The system will also notify your housekeeper of the cleaning date change (if there's a housekeeper assigned).
  3. Does the system notify the housekeeper automatically?
    Yes, the system will notify your housekeeper via sms of any changes that occur to cleaning dates.
